Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature at Breaking The Spine which allows you to spotlight upcoming releases that you're really keen for!!

Author: Kimberly Derting
Release Date: November 15th 2011
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Add it: Goodreads

In the violent country of Ludania, the language you speak determines what class you are, and there are harsh punishments if you forget your place—looking a member of a higher class in the eye can result in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina (Charlie for short) can understand all languages, a dangerous ability she’s been hiding her whole life. Her only place of release is the drug-filled underground club scene, where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. There, she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy who speaks a language she’s never heard, and her secret is almost exposed. Through a series of violent upheavals, it becomes clear that Charlie herself is the key to forcing out the oppressive power structure of her kingdom….

Why I'm Waiting:  This book sounds like it has an awesome premise and I've heard that Kimberly Derting is an excellent author. I also have a strange obsession with different languages and dead languages so this makes me really curious! I haven't yet read The Body Finder series but considering The Pledge is being released next month and I have a zillion other books to read before then, I may add The Body Finder to my list at a later date :)

Author: Michelle Zink
Release Date: March 20th 2010
Publisher: Dial Books for Young Readers
Add it: Goodreads

When her parents are murdered before her eyes, sixteen year-old Helen Cartwright finds herself launched into an underground London where a mysterious organization called the Dictata controls the balance of good and evil. Helen learns that she is one of three remaining angelic descendants charged with protecting the world’s past, present, and future. Unbeknownst to her, she has been trained her whole life to accept this responsibility. Now, as she finds herself torn between the angelic brothers protecting her and the devastatingly handsome childhood friend who wants to destroy her, she must prepare to be brave, to be hunted, and above all to be strong because temptation will be hard to resist, even for an angel.

Why I’m Waiting: Again, I’ve heard wonderful things about Michelle Zink, and to be honest the main thing that draws me in about this book is the cover. Isn’t it GORGEOUS! This also sounds like an awesome angel story and I’m always up for a good angel story!
