In which I talk about nothing in particular

Firstly, here are some videos to entertain you...

One of my amazing friends just posted this on my Facebook wall...
Needless to say, it's now one of my favourite song. IT'S SO CATCHY!

This is awesome because it's true :)

For no reason in particular.. I just love the Weasley twins :D

Also for no reason... It's just hilarious, plus I love Charlie :)

NOW... The age old question, WHY AM I POSTING RANDOM YOUTUBE VIDEOS INSTEAD OF REVIEWS???
Well, it's not really an age old question, I think I'm just going a bit loopy :S Anyway, to answer that, here is a list (cos I like lists):

1. I've been rereading Harry Potter
2. When I read Harry Potter, I seem to forget any other book (or just life in general), exists.
3. University has started back up
4. A particular unit at uni has me wanting to punch myself in the face several times a week (and rather than punch myself in the face, I've been attempting the gazillions of assignments I have to do for it)
5. Said unit's teacher also makes me want to punch myself in the face
6. I have just been introduced to Doctor Who
AND in the spirit of keeping to the magic of the number 7 (in the Harry Potter world)
7. Harry Potter.

NUFF SAID.
No?

Well, there is another reason apart from Harry Potter and the temptation of punching myself in the face, and that is, my mum and 4 year old sister have come to visit me :) (have you ever tried to read, do assignments or ANYTHING with a 4 year old saying, "What are you doing?", "But why?" and "Will you play with me?" every 5 minutes?) It's pretty great, I've missed them both a bunch :D

So, I will keep the reviews and blogging coming as much as I possibly can, but it won't be as often as I'd like it to be. But things with dragon-unit and dragon-lady will hopefully even out soon and I'm onto Half Blood Prince at the moment, so I'm nearly done rereading Harry Potter ;)

So tell me...
HOW FREAKING AWESOME WAS THAT FIRST VIDEO?
"Baby I'm a Slytherin and girl you are a Gryffindor..." *hums*

Follow Friday (6)

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!
This week's question is
"What is the longest book you've read? What are your favourite 600+ page reads?"
Well, the longest book I've ever read is probably Under the Dome by Stephen King, at 1,072 pages....
My FAVOURITE 600+ page reads are obviously the last four Harry Potter books (636, 766, 607, 607 pages respectively) and The Passage by Justin Cronin (766 pages)
I have a uh, slight feeling that EVERYBODY is going to put Harry Potter as their favourite long reads :) Because well, they are amazing! YAY FOR REREADING HARRY POTTER AT THE MOMENT! I'm reading Order of the Phoenix, and god I hate Umbridge.

How teeny does Deathly Hallows look compared to Half Blood Prince? The pages are so much thinner than all the other books!!

I did enjoy Under the Dome and I'm yet to read Stephen King's The Stand and It (which are also 1000+ and I own The Stand!!)

Discussion: Harry Potter 1&2 [Harry Potter Reading Challenge]

Penelope from The Reading Fever is hosting a Harry Potter Reading Challenge and although I didn't sign up for it (although I probably should, I'm now reading Prisoner of Azkaban), she has put up some discussion questions for Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. As I'm naturally in love with Harry Potter, I decided to do the discussion anyway :) Enjoy!!
Also, I'll try to answer these like I haven't read the whole series, just theoretically!!

Book 1 & 2 Discussion questions:

  1. What was your first very first impression of Harry Potter himself? Did your impression change at the end of the first book? My very first impression of Harry Potter was that he was somewhat insecure and I felt incredibly sorry for him (Hello, living in a cupboard? Living with the Dursleys?). I also got the impression he is incredibly patient for putting up with the way he is treated.
  2. At what point in either book did you decide that you did, or didn't, like the story? Oh uh, this is hard... Possibly the first page! I really love how everybody is introduced and I love the langauge, "thankyou very much".
  3. Is there anything you dislike so far? Something you would change if you could? No, nothing at all!
  4. What is it about J.K. Rowling's writing that makes her books so appealing to so many people? Is it the characters? The plot? Something else? What do you love most about her writing? THE CHARACTERS! THE PLOT! I think J.K. Rowling has an incredible mind and how she managed to weave such an intricate plot in every single one of her books is mind blowing. I love all of the characters and how different they are and how they interact with one another. The thing I love most about her writing is that she has written such an incredible, complex story, yet her writing is simple and to the point. There's no waffling on about mundane things, for example: "Ginny's hair was as red as strawberries grown ripe in a field"... WHAT?
  5. In the first book, we are introduced to a very different world than the one we live in. What were some things that blew your mind when you first read about them? When I first read about it? Ohh, this is jogging my memory a tad... To be honest, I first read it when I was about 7, so I honestly believed there could be a chance it would be real and that I'd get a letter when I was 11... Needless to say, my hopes and dreams have been crushed. *sobs*
  6. Despite being so different, what do you think makes the wizard world so believable? What makes it a place that people want to escape to? It's believable because of the character's personalities and also, J.K. Rowling has managed to create spells that make us muggles basically blind! Also, there is Mr. Weasley and his fascination with muggles, "Oh do tell me, what is the function of a rubber duck".
  7. In The Sorcerer's Stone, Professor Quirrel tells Harry, "There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it." What does this statement tell us about Professor Quirrel? Do you agree or disagree with him? I disagree with Quirrel simply because he was posessed by Voldemort. Also, I believe there is good and "evil" (or bad) but I also believe that who we are affects our decisions (obviously). For example, something I may see as a negative thing, might not be so bad to others.
  8. In The Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore tells Harry, "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." The sorting hat also suggested Harry could find great fame and glory in Slytherin House. What choices does Harry make that lead him away from darkness? Could he have been the good wizard that he was if some of those choices were different? Harry makes the decision to stay in Gryffindor, he also chooses to befriend Ron and save Hermione from the troll in Philosopher's Stone. I think that due to his horrible upbringing and treatment, Harry has grown to see the good in others and situations. Harry could have been perhaps a little less "good" if he took up Draco's offer of being friends and if he chose to be in Slytherin simply because of the whole 'bad influence' business. But I think Harry would have fought this to an extent and definitely wouldn't have turned out to be a death eater or anything!
  9. If you're re-reading the series, what are some differences you've noticed this time? Are there things you didn't pick up on before? Or did you find you liked/disliked something differently this time? Well, to be honest I've read and re-read this series too many times and I think I've picked up on all the little bits and pieces that J.K. Rowling leaves a few re-reads ago... But I manage to love the books even more with every read.
  10. Just for fun: If you could make your own polyjuice potion, who would you disguise yourself as, and why? OHHH. GOOD QUESTION. I honestly have no idea, because I have no idea what my intentions would be no matter who I chose :)
As I posted this pretty much 10 minutes after my WoW post, feel free to go check that out too ;)

In which I cry over Harry Potter - again.

So according to my "Currently Reading" widget, I'm reading Double and re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Of course, I haven't yet started on Double at all because I'm addicted to Harry Potter - again. The minute I finished reading 'The Boy Who Lived' (the first chapter EVER), I started to CRY. So I still haven't started Double purely because I keep crying over Harry Potter. Then I came across THIS:

This didn't help, I cried again. This has got to be the greatest fanmade Harry Potter memorial video ever. EVER.

So the reason I haven't been blogging folks, is cause I haven't been reading other books, I've been reading Harry Potter. Because my name is Taneika and I'm addicted to Harry Potter :)

Just thought I'd share this joy with you all <3

Harry Potter: Final day for the cast

    HOLY CRAP GUYS!
I watched this video this morning, and the lovely Brodie unknowingly reminded me to post it on my blog sometime today (I was about to, then forgot as my baby sister got upset and needed cuddling, AWW!) so watch and weep my friends!
Yeah, I cried. Seeing them cry made me cry, and I love Emma Watson - just sayin'!

DEATHLY HALLOWS PT 2 COMES OUT ON DVD NOVEMBER 16th! WOOO! Do you realise how freaking EXCITED I am? I seriously hope they have mega awesome special features including a detailed interview with Tom Felton and Helena Bonham Carter because they are awesome. But oh my gosh. My beautiful Harry Potter DVD collection will be complete!

When are you planning on buying DHp2, if at all? I know I will go uptown to "have a look" that day just to see if it's in stores, and if it isn't in stores that day, I'll go home extremely pissed and then go back the next day for "another browse"*.

*Whenever I say "browse" or "having a look" it means spend money that I shouldn't be spending,** this happens often with books and movies

**Jordon, if you read this, feel free to ignore :)

    Potterhead

Yes. I am aware I’m posting alot of blogs in a short space of time, sorry! I just feel like it at the moment and plus, I have to write book related content for the assignment.

Anywho… Harry Potter. I hear that name and just get really giddy and happy. Obviously I’m one of those people who’s “childhood is over” but in all honesty, it’s true!  After seeing Deathly Hallows part two in cinema about a month ago, I cried. I just can’t believe it’s over and *spoiler alert* the scene where Snape dies, although completely different to the book – AMAZING! I must say I barely stopped crying for the entire movie although I nearly wet myself laughing when Voldemort hugged Draco (what?).

In comparison to the book Deathly Hallows part one and two I found fairly good. Yes there were differences, like WHY was it necessary for Harry to jump off a cliff with Voldemort? Movie effect I guess! But apart from stupid bits like that I thoroughly enjoyed it and I didn’t find myself going “WHAT THE F***” like I did in Half Blood Prince. I only wish that Molly Weasley’s duel with Bellatrix Lestrange was longer, it went for so long in the book and was freaking amazing (also the fact that I adore Molly and love Bellatrix simply because she is SO incredibly tapped in the head), but I’m so glad they kept “NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!” in the movie! Ahhhh! That made me incredibly happy that they didn’t get rid of that just because it’s a “kids movie” (which quite frankly, it hasn’t been a kids movie since the end of Goblet of Fire).

Whilst I loved Deathly Hallows part one and two as films as well as being one of my favourite books in the series. Another favourite Harry Potter book was Half Blood Prince. But the movie? Yes, it was funny, good as a movie in itself, but considering its part of the Harry Potter world and has parts that are crucial to Deathly Hallows, and also I’m prejudiced to the books cos they’re just THAT amazing as many of you probably know. The movie in relation to the book was terrible. I mean what the f*** was with Ginny and Harry kissing in the Room of Requirement, Harry is meant to go up there to hide the book HIMSELF and he just so happens to put Ravenclaw’s diadem in front of it so he can go back and get the book later, but nooo. Ginny has to hide it. When I first saw this I got so confused – how was Harry going to know where to look for it now? – I’m just glad they fixed that part up in the movie decently.

Dumbledore’s death. Oh. My. God. It’s sad in the movie yes. But tasteful? No. From memory, his death and funeral goes on for about 3 chapters in the book, he actually gets a funeral, at that funeral the merpeople sing underwater in memory of him, the whole school is incredibly upset and Fawkes sings his haunting and beautiful song. Another bone to pick witht he movie is that Harry would NEVER stand there and watch Dumbledore die. In the book, he is under the invisibility cloak and is unable to move as Dumbledore put a spell on him to prevent him moving (cos he planned his death). But Harry just stands there. I’m sorry but no. Harry would not stand there and watch his father figure be ‘murdered’, Harry would have gone off his nutter in front of all the death eaters or would have at least screamed at Dumbledore to move.

Rant over. But this will most likely be updated when I reread the books :)
